The new .globalx gTLD will operate as a restricted registry, in which GlobalX Information Services Pty Ltd. (GLobalX) can create and control domain spaces to strengthen GlobalX’s brand identity and authenticity, as well as to provide a platform for a deeper relationship with its client base. In this regard, .globalx will be used as an authoritative internet space to provide information, services and resources to consumers in a way that promotes consumer confidence, convenience and utility. Second and third level domain names will be utilised for marketing and communication purposes, with internet users assured of brand authenticity.

GlobalX is a leading provider of information and business process tools to business, serving three key client communities: legal, property and commercial. The information provided to customers is critical to their business requirements and is primarily used for verification and due diligence purposes. Examples of the types of information provided include property information (copies of land titles, cadastral maps), commercial information (company reports, UK Companies House⁄Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) searches, director information, credit reports) and legal information (for use in mergers and acquisitions and due diligence investigations). The business process tools offered by GlobalX include Australia’s most widely used legal practice management software solution (Open Practice), as well as legal precedent services and online conveyance services. GlobalX was established in 1996 and currently have strong presence in the Australian and UK markets. In the last 15 years GlobalX has experienced significant growth and operates a range of market leading brands such as GXS (legal services information), Open Practice, RealtyPro (real estate information), UrbisPro (land planning information), LegalinX (legal support solutions) and others. GlobalX strives to better address the unique business requirements of its customers in an efficient manner through a strong online brand presence and to ensure that its clients are able to readily identify with GlobalX and to this end creates an online environment that those users find appealing and easy to use. The use of .globalx to provide individually tailored information portals for its clients will further enhance this relationship.

Since the inception of the current domain name system, business activities conducted on the internet are constantly changing and evolving with increased complexity. The volume of commercial transactions over the internet is constantly growing and bringing benefits of simplicity and lowered transaction costs to businesses and consumers. However, at the same time, criminal activities over the internet including data breach, hacking and phishing activities have also become more sophisticated resulting in loss of consumer confidence beyond mere monetary harm. .globalx will facilitate greater trust, security and assurance from internet users connecting with GlobalX online, whilst still allowing convenient and efficient interaction.

GlobalX’s mission and purpose for the proposed new gTLD are in line with ICANN’s initiatives to promote public interest. GlobalX is committed to contributing towards achieving such initiatives in line with ICANN’s Affirmation of Commitments, which includes:
- consumer trust: the .globalx gTLD registry will be operated in a centralised manner with a restrictive registration policy. Registration of domain names will only be available to GlobalX and its affiliate entities, thereby providing added consumer assurance that .globalx domain names are trustworthy. As .globalx domain names are subject to registration standards, policies and procedures under GlobalX’s control, the possibility of malicious conduct within the .globalx domain space is eliminated;
- competition: .globalx is not intended to instigate competition and consumer choice among prospective registrants. Instead it is anticipated to contribute to ICANN’s initiatives to promote public interest through its operations focused on strengthening consumer trust. Increased trust in .globalx will drive existing and new top level domain (TLD) registry operators to make improvements in mechanisms to improve consumer trust of their TLDs; and
- consumer choice: .globalx will enable user-driven improvements and innovations assisting GlobalX’s marketing efforts through its ability to create new second and third level domain names on demand. These names will provide the consumers with more choices for interacting with GlobalX. As GlobalX has effective control over the registration and use of domain names under .globalx domain space, this will also contribute towards general service innovations on the internet.

Given the restricted nature of .globalx, the projected number of registration is likely to be limited. It is anticipated that a rather limited number of domain names (around 250) will be registered in the first year. However, over the next few years, the number of registrations is likely to increase to about 1500 domain names as GlobalX develops and implements new services and marketing campaigns.

As the .globalx gTLD expands and evolves, GlobalX will offer the use of second level domain names to its customers and business partners. In this endeavour, GlobalX will continue to comply with all operational, technical and policy requirements, as well as maintaining consumer trust and the stability of the internet. GlobalX will keep ICANN reasonably informed of any material developments relating to .globalx including compliance with the continued operations instrument obligations as set out in Specification 8 of the Registry Agreement.

GlobalX intends to create relevant domain names for specific use such as services, geographic names or the provision of information to customers via second and third level domain names. In accordance with registration policies and the proposed measures for protection of geographic names as outlined in response to Question 22, GlobalX will use geographic names to localise its websites in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. The use of geographic names is intended to:
- connect internet users with relevant information as applicable to the territory; and
- comply with required rules and regulations in the national territory.

GlobalX is a well-recognised brand within its chosen markets and has trademarks registered in New Zealand for the following classes: 35 (business, commercial and consumer information), 36 (real estate information services) and 45 (provision of information) and trademark applications pending in Australia for similar categories. These applications have passed the examination stage and are expected to be registered by mid-2012.

GlobalX has existing domain names which are exact matches to the applied-for .globalx string in the following spaces:
- com, eu, com.au, net.au, co, co.nz

Recently, GlobalX was successful in securing sunrise application in .asia, .biz, .info and .eu domain spaces based on existing trademark registration.

GlobalX believes that .globalx is unlikely to cause confusion with either a generic term or any existing TLDs. GlobalX is known as a leading provider of information and business tools with significant reputation in the UK and Australia. GlobalX has registered several domain names with its business name including globalx.com and has used the GlobalX brand in conjunction with its core business for over 10 years. As such, the GlobalX brand is well known for the provision of business critical information and business tools to streamline its customers’ business processes.
